Brookgreen Gardens

The magnificent and wondrous place called Brookgreen Gardens will leave all in awe from start to finish.  It is a sculpture garden, wildlife sanctuary and much more. 

As you walk in you will be enveloped by nature, an abundance of sky grasping trees, kaleidoscopic flowers and green grass as far as the eye can see.  Become entranced into the peaceful place bubbling with brooks and teeming with jaw dropping artwork.

That is just the garden maze; there are more experiences to become enthralled in with a boat ride on the marsh which is home to alligators and waterfowl, lily pads, frogs and more.   Take a history lesson on plantations, slavery and other southern life as the boat drifts through the water and while you relax and take in the scenery.

The butterfly exhibit will be one for the photo album.  A greenhouse tent is filled with nothing but butterflies fluttering around and landing on still and seated people.  It is an incomparable experience to be surrounded by these very beautiful insects.  In the green house is also a display of the cocoons housing the metamorphosis so that you may watch as they hatch out and discover their new wings.  For all ages this exhibit is one to be excited about while visiting Brookgreen Gardens.

The zoo at Brookgreen Gardens is home to an abundance of farm animals like horses, chickens, cows, sheep, goats and turkeys.  Their wild animal exhibits give the animals a naturalistic habitat and are mostly for animals with injuries that would make living in the wild more dangerous.  These animals include alligators, foxes, bald eagles, otters, deer, hawks and a plethora of birds.  Children and adults alike love the zoo exhibit because it gives a chance to have a special appreciation for these awesome creatures. 

After, before or during is a great time to check out their Pavilion Restaurant. With beautiful and shaded outdoor seating and cooling drinks and delicious soups, sandwiches, burgers and salads, you will have no regrets dining here. 

Brookgreen Gardens is the place you will tell all of your friends about and will want to return to.  It is sure to be one of the highlights of your trip and it is a fantastic way to have some quality time with your family.  Don't forget to stop by the gift shop on your way out.
