Myrtle Beach Attraction: Waccatee Zoo
Families of all ages love to appreciate nature's wild animals from a safe and yet personal distance. It is a special experience to see over 100 species in their makeshift natural habitat. If you are staying at Landmark Resort and are looking for a family activity that will be fun for everyone, then go see what awaits you at the Waccatee Zoo.
Waccatee Zoo prides itself in offering a special experience for humans to observe the wild animals while keeping the animals comfortable in a habitat that mimics a forest, jungle, etc. The animals are well taken care of by this privately owned zoo and are considered family. Some of the creatures you will find at the Waccatee Zoo include buffalo, zebra, leopards, lions, cougars and tigers. There is even a chimpanzee named Chico that enjoys watching his own television. Birds are plentiful at the zoo as well; during certain seasons you may gaze upon thousands of local birds like egrets or herons in a clustered area. These birds find sanctuary at this zoo and use this location as breeding grounds.
Besides the big beasts, the Intracoastal Waterway is viewable from the zoo and offers up a spectacular view. Grab some lunch at the Waccatee snack shop while you enjoy the animals and the views.
Waccatee Zoo is open seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The admission rates are as follows: ages 13 and older are $10.00, ages 1 to 12 years are $4.00 and 11 months and younger are free of charge.
Landmark Resort will give you a Vacation Member Benefits Card at check-in. Bring this to the Waccatee Zoo and receive 10% off total admissions and 10% off gift shop purchases of $10 or more.
