Take a Day Trip to Georgetown
Landmark Resort and Myrtle Beach offer much to do for visitors, snowbirds and residents alike. It is always a treat to explore the places around Myrtle Beach for they offer much history and wildlife representations of South Carolina. If you’d like to reach outside of the Myrtle Beach area, Georgetown is less than an hour away and you can easily spend the day visiting museums, sailing on charters and admiring wildlife at refuges in that area. Here are a few places you'll want to visit during your day trip to Georgetown.
SC- Cares: Coastal Animal Rescue & Educational Sanctuary- This wildlife park is dedicated to the care of animals of all kind. There are animals from dogs, cats and bunnies, to horses, goats and pigs to wolves, lamas and more. For all animal lovers, this is a special place to visit and enjoy.
Hampton Plantation Historic Site- This Georgian-style mansion offers a slice of American history to its visitors. This plantation was up and running during the southern slave era and has on display the mansion, the plantation grounds and the Wambaw Creek. Take a trip into the past and learn more about southern history during your visit here.
South Carolina Maritime Museum- Georgetown is home to the second largest seaport in the state. The South Carolina Maritime Museum was rectified to honor the history of this port. Here you will find the oldest operating lighthouse in South Carolina which was built in 1811. You may enjoy the stories of the past at this museum through a series of photos, maps, paintings, diagrams and narratives.
