Brookgreen Gardens
Brookgreen Gardens in Pawley's Island is a non-profit garden museum. As a National Landmark, it has a significant collection of sculptures in an outdoor setting and has the only zoo accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums on the coast of the Carolinas.
The history of Brookgreen Gardens dates back to th 1920s when Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington visited the property and purchased 10,000 acres of it in order to preserve the rich, beautiful potential it held. Her vision quickly turned the property into what it is today.
Brookgreen Gardens is portioned off into sections creating differently themed gardens throughout the park including the Dogwood Garden, The Fountain of the Muses Garden, The Live Oak Allee Garden, the Kitchen Garden, and The Labyrinth at Brookgreen is the newest addition to the Gardens with a medieval feel and natural grass looking over the natural beauty of a tributary creek of the Waccamaw River.
Brookgreen Gardens is open to Weddings, tour groups, and busses year round and is open from 9:30 - 5 with additional hours in the summer season.
