Aaron is an avid golfer and will be providing personal insight to some of his favorite courses.
I recently had the opportunity to play the River Club, located in Pawley’s Island. Recently voted 4.5 stars by golf digest and featuring new Champion Ultradwarf greens. Upon arrival you can tell it has the true feeling of a plantation course and the weather could not have been better at 75 degrees with a slight breeze. After a friendly greeting from the staff at the golf bag drop and in the pro shop I was off to the first tee. It does not take many holes to figure out where River Club Gets its name from. Featuring water on 15 of 18 holes there are also over 100 sand traps and bunkers to add to your challenge. While there is plenty of landing area off the tees the approach shots leave little room for error.
After a quick lunch from the bar and grill it was time to hit the back nine. Holes 14 and 18 truly show why they are ranked among the top golf holes along the grand strand every year. The par 3 14th is an island green that was playing about 175 yards. Luckily the green is fairly large so a precise shot was not required to keep it dry. The par 5 18th is a great risk/reward hole. Playing at 518 yards you must cross the water twice to play for eagle. It is a great finishing hole that can make or break a round. To say the least River Club is a great golf experience from their staff, course and new the greens were in impeccable shape. River Club is available on a number of our golf packages offered through the golf and entertainment department right here at the Landmark Resort.
